John-Nikhil to collaborate for this project, which grills Digvijay Singh

Post five years of well acknowledged thriller D-Day, along with Rishi Kapoor, director Nikhil Advani and Ritesh Shah are up for presenting another thriller, called Batla House. It is going to be based on the real encounter that had occurred around ten years back on 19th September. This upcoming movie of John Abraham is going to the floors this September. Interestingly, Nikhil is planning to finish the project in only 50 days. Film is going to be shot primarily in India, at different locations like Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Mumbai. Some part of the films will be shot in Nepal as well. John will be portraying DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who got eight President Gallantry Award for his bravery.

The real story and Digvijay Singh’s conspiracy:

The mission was conducted in2008, in which a seven member team forayed in to the Flat 108 of L-18 Batla House to catch Basir, the chief of Indian Mujahideen, who was up for causing various bomb blasts across the nation. In fact, he was the mastermind behind various blasts in between 2003-2008, including the serial blast in Delhi. It is said that Basir’s intention behind the same was to impress ISIS. Other militants Atif Ameen and Mohammad Sajid were caught at injured state, whereas inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, and Head Constable Balwant Singh were injured as well.

However, though another terrorist Mohammad Saif was arrested later, but other two, Shahzad Ahmed and Ariz Khan managed to escape. But, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav had to face conspiracies and confront judicial enquiries, as the then Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh termed that the encounter was fake. Digvijay’s claims were rubbished in 2010 after Shahzad was arrested in Azamgarh. In fact, things got clear only after Aziz was nabbed.

Film’s preparation:

Though Nikhil is already having 3-4 films including various shows, he agreed immediately to do the movie when Ritesh presented him the script of Batla House.

According to Nikhil, “The encounter will be seen from three perspectives—that of the police, those present near the location, many of whom believed that the bullets flying were for the TV serial Swabhimaan which was being shot in the vicinity just two days ago and the real picture”.

Nikkhil has already worked with John in Salaam-e-Ishq in 2007 and also was in touch recently when he signed him for the Milap Zaveridirected thriller, Satyamev Jayate. Read: She is Daughter of a Congress MLA, sister of an actress; debuting in a film with John and Manoj to know more about the film.

Talking about the character, Nikhil says that “Sanjeev Kumar Yadav wanted a physically and mentally strong actor and John fits the bill. With a little light on him and a flash of those dimples, John stands out in a crowd. The biggest challenge will be to make him blend in”.

John is also very much passionate about the film and is gearing up to play the nation’s most renowned officer who unfortunately had to fight for ten years to get back his credibility. John states that, “We have yet to meet but I’ve been devouring all the material on him and from what I’ve read, he seems like a humble man with an interesting back story”.

John further adds, “D-Day has put him in a different space and after Madras Café and Parmanu, I understand that space too. His eyes light up when he speaks about Batla House, I see a hunger and passion in him and having him around as producer on Satyamev Jayate makes me believe we will work well together on this story. The biggest challenge will be to find the balance between duty and country, that fine line Sanjeev Kumar Yadav walk so perfectly and project it on screen”.
