Padmavat controversy is a secret to none. The much awaited magnum opus of ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been in news since its commencement. Enough has been talked about the movie; there is perhaps no aspect remained in relation with the story that has not been covered yet. The legal battles surrounding the movie have shifted its release too much. Well, there is almost no single movie left that hasn’t come with some controversy. Given below is the compilation of some of such noted ones.
This Ashutosh Gowarikar movie having an ensemble star cast of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai was a hit at the box office. However, it was not free of controversies. Rajputs from Rajasthan had blocked the screen accusing distortion of history. Rajputs had to say then that Jodha Bai was not the daughter of Udai Singh; not of Raja Bharmal. In fact, they had to claim that Jodhaa was not the wife of Akbar, rather of his (Akbar’s) son Salim. The same Karni Sena was also quite wary against the movie then. However, Ashutosh with backing of historians, and moreover of the royal Rajput families, managed to release it.
Here comes another Ashutosh Gowarikar and Hrithik Roshan movie that stirred some controversy. Though there were not much violence, but certainly many fingers were raised. Historians had questioned about various aspects, including the wearable, pots, accessories, etc post coming across with the trailer of the film. Critics too had claimed that the movie has not presented the 3000 year old civilization in the right fashion.
The movie starring Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor invited a lot of controversy for showing the bonding between Ashoka and Karubaki (starring SRK and Kareena respectively). To be specific, its business was hugely affected in Odisha as the posters were removed due to huge protest, only after a few days of release. There was actually no mention of such romance in history. Well, not just in Odisha, the movie bombed in overall box-office as well.
Padmavati controversy is not new for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone; though it’s too much this time. Both had to face some chaso during Bajirao as well. It was banned in Pakistan being called un-Islamic. Not just in Pakistan, certain extremist Islamic groups too had urged to boycott the movie claiming it violating the Islamic rules.
Unbelievable but it’s a fact that the epic love story of Bollywood has been questioned many times. It was never accepted easily by the muslim extremists, though there were not much violence. In fact, SP leader Azam Khan has recently claimed that the movie has wrongly portrayed the characters of Salim, Anarkali, and Akbar. He has to claim that Salim was never in such relationship with Anarkali.
Well, Bollywood or controversies are like the either sides of one coin. But, it’s a request to all those protestors to not take it to the violence level or not to deliberately hamper the business, which can affect thousands of people associated with it.
